Online scams are putting our kababayans at risk. Studies show that in 2025, 77% of Hongkongers were targeted by scams, with average losses of HK$6,798.

Many OFWs fall prey to these scams, disguised as fake jobs, phishing messages, or romance scams. Despite efforts by authorities and online services to crack down, vigilance is key. So, how can our kababayans protect themselves?

– Be cautious of unsolicited messages or offers

– Verify job postings and company legitimacy

– Never share personal or financial info online

– Watch out for red flags (e.g., poor grammar, urgency)

– Use strong passwords and 2FA

– Monitor accounts and report suspicious activity

Avoiding scams can impact their stay in Hong Kong – financially and emotionally.  Stay alert!
