DMW Awards Emergency Aid to 16 Seafarers through AKSYON Fund

MAKATI CITY — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) awarded emergency financial assistance to 16 Filipino seafarers under the AKSYON Fund on Monday, May 19, during a brief ceremony held at the Migrant’s Brew Café, Susan V. Ople Building.

The seafarers, who faced various emergencies while deployed at sea, received cash assistance aimed at providing immediate relief and support. Among the beneficiaries was Hannabel Garcia, a longtime lady security officer aboard a cruise ship since 2002, who was recently diagnosed with a debilitating medical condition that left her unable to walk and in need of surgery.

DMW–National Capital Region Director Atty. Falconi “Ace” Millar led the distribution of aid and emphasized the department’s commitment to supporting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), particularly in times of crisis.

The AKSYON Fund is designed to provide immediate financial support to OFWs in distress, ensuring that no worker is left without assistance in times of need.
