Starting Life Back Home: Why Some OFWs Choose Not to Return Abroad

“Where does life go from here?”

That’s often the question most OFWs ask once they’ve returned home for good. While it’s good for them to be reunited with their families, especially for the OFWs whose stint abroad had lasted for decades, that question still remains.

The truth is, transitioning from overseas back to domestic life can be a difficult process for our long-time OFWs. After years of living in a different country, where they have found financial  stability and have built a life of their own, they now find themselves returning to uncertain waters.

So how do OFWs readjust back to life in the Philippines? What are some of the struggles they go  through? And what convinces them to stay even though they still have opportunities to explore abroad?

Join Bantay OCW’s returning guest, former OFW Lois Gabriel, as she continues the story of how she readapted to life back in her home country, what convinced her to stay in the Philippines, and what difficulties she faced down the road back home.
